What you'll need to watch our tutorials

All you need to watch our video tutorials is a web browser (just like the one you're using to look at this page) with Flash Player installed. The chances are that you will already have this. If not, you can download and install the player in a matter of minutes.

All of our tutorials are recorded at a screen resolution of 800x600. When watching them we recommend you set your monitor to a resolution of 1024x768 or higher.

Adding backgrounds to web pages and controlling their position using CSS

Backgrounds are often used on web pages to enhance the design. This tutorial explains how to add three different backgrounds (a single colour, a repeating graphic, and an effective gradient/single-colour combination), using HTML and CSS coding. The tutorial also shows how to use Paint Shop Pro to create all of the artwork needed.

The connection between screen resolution
and web site design

This tutorial demonstrates how changing the screen resolution settings on your computer's monitor affects what you see. It then shows how to alter the resolution on your own monitor. The choice between fixed and floating widths on web pages is explored, together with the need to consider the typical screen resolution settings of your target audience when designing web sites.
